NEET PG 2023: Drought of Information on Admission Dates Clarified by National Eligibility Test (Postgraduate) – Tentative Schedule Revealed

In a recent announcement, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified the fate of NEET PG 2024, addressing speculations about the potential implementation of the National Exit Examination (NExT) in the coming year.
The Post Graduate Medical Entrance Education Board (PGMEB) has sought feedback on the Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023 draft. However, in the event that NExT 2024 does not materialize, the NMC has released a provisional examination schedule for NEET PG 2024, as outlined in a public notice.
Originally, the National Exit Examination (NExT) was slated for 2024. However, following advice from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the NMC decided to postpone the NExT examination in July 2023. The NMC’s public notice stated, “All the stakeholders are hereby informed that the National Exit Test (NEXT) examination has been postponed on the advice of the Ministry dated 11.07.2023 until further instructions from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.”
According to the current draft, NEET PG is expected to continue for at least another year. It states, “Until the first batch based on National Exit Test (NExT) becomes eligible for admission in Broad Speciality, the existing system of admission through National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) as per Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulation, 2000 (PGMER-2000) shall continue.”
For the year 2023, if admissions are determined by the National Eligibility Test (Postgraduate), the draft provides tentative dates for NEET PG 2023. According to the proposed schedule, the NEET PG 2024 exam is tentatively slated for March 2024.
