In a significant prelude to its release, Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film ‘Jawan’ witnessed a surge in advance bookings across international box office markets. Despite being nearly twenty days away from its September 7 release, the movie is already making headlines with its exceptional performance in pre-sales. Initial reports indicate that ‘Jawan’ is outpacing ‘Pathaan’ in pre-release sales across various regions where pre-sales have commenced. Notably, ‘Pathaan’ had previously set remarkable pre-sales records, showcasing its unmatched popularity.
In the United States, ‘Jawan’ has notched over USD 100K in first-day bookings, a feat achieved nineteen days prior to its release, setting a benchmark ten days ahead of ‘Pathaan,’ which attained the same milestone nine days before its release. The latter had secured the highest-ever opening for a Bollywood film in North America earlier this year, amassing USD 1.49 million on its first day. The exceptional anticipation surrounding ‘Jawan’ suggests a potential renewal of this record. Pre-sales for Canada are anticipated to commence shortly.
Across the UK, ‘Jawan’ has already sold nearly 3.5K tickets worth GBP 35K in major cinema chains, including Cineworld and Odeon. This surpasses ‘Pathaan’s’ pre-sales figures just a week before its release. Meanwhile, the prominent chain VUE is yet to initiate sales. Encouragingly, the film’s Telugu dubbed version is also receiving a favorable response in the UK and the US, indicating positive prospects for its reception in Telugu-speaking regions in India.
Down under in Australia, ‘Jawan’s’ advance bookings are leading ‘Pathaan’ by 20%, with over 1K tickets sold. Notably, ‘Pathaan’ had set new opening records for Bollywood films in Australia due to its holiday release. ‘Jawan’ managing to surpass this performance is a remarkable achievement.
The Middle East is also registering robust pre-sales, with VOX, the leading cinema chain in the region, already selling 930 tickets in UAE for the film’s first day, with a total of around 1500 tickets sold for the same period.
